Deepfake Cyber Crime Complaint India

If someone has created or distributed a deepfake involving your identity, photograph or likeness, you can consider making a cybercrime complaint. A strong complaint should clearly explain what was manipulated, where it appeared, who appears to be responsible and what harm or threats resulted.

Information to include

• Chronology of the incident.
• Original photograph or source material where available.
• Screenshots of the deepfake and surrounding context.
• Exact URLs and usernames.
• Threats, blackmail demands or messages.
• Information about people to whom the material was sent.

Report through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal

The official portal provides “Other Cyber Crime” reporting and specifically covers online and social-media crimes. It also provides a “Report Suspect” facility for social-media URLs and other identifiers.

Possible legal framework

Depending on the facts, Information Technology Act Sections 66C, 66D, 66E, 67 and 67A may require consideration. Other criminal-law provisions may also apply depending on threats, blackmail, impersonation or other conduct.
